New York Islanders center Brock Nelson tallied a pair of goals in helping lead his club to a 5-3 road win over the Detroit Red Wings. The veteran opened the scoring 12:11 into the first period before briefly giving his team a 3-2 lead with a power-play marker 5:04 into the second frame. The 32-year-old now sits with 27 goals and 48 points across 59 games on the season while he now has five goals and seven points over his last six games. Nelson enjoyed a career-best season in the 2022-23 campaign when he recorded 36 goals and a career-high 75 points while skating in all 82 games. With the win, the Islanders improved to 25-20-14 on the season, good for a share of fourth place in the Metropolitan Division alongside the New Jersey Devils.--Brenton Kemp
