6 months agoHouston Astros shortstop prospect Brice Matthews has been having a strong season offensively down on the farm. Matthews is the Astros' No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and the Astros' first-round pick in 2023. Matthews, 22, opened the season in Rookie ball but has spent most of his season in High-A Asheville after opening the season on the seven-day injured list with lower-back tightness. Matthews is aggressive at the plate and on the basepaths, but his right-handed swing provides some of the best exit velocities on the farm. Matthews is a former high school quarterback and is very athletic, but the Astros will need to help him improve his plate discipline so that he can reach his full potential. The young shortstop is a couple of seasons away from a potential big-league debut and is a watch-list candidate for dynasty managers to monitor.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller
