1 year agoLas Vegas Raiders quarterback Brian Hoyer remained the backup quarterback in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers despite the absence of starter Jimmy Garoppolo. The Raiders opted to start their fourth-round rookie quarterback Aidan O'Connell over the veteran Hoyer. Hoyer remains a valuable backup in this offense because he played in head coach Josh McDaniels' system with the New England Patriots. The Raiders rookie out of Purdue played relatively well but had three turnovers in the loss to the Chargers. It is unclear whether O'Connell or Hoyer will be the preferred spot starter for the Raiders in the future. Still, with Garoppolo out of concussion protocol, Hoyer will remain on the bench for the Raiders in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers.--Joshua Costello - RotoBaller
