Brewers Acquire Andrew Chafin From Diamondbacks
1 year agoThe Milwaukee Brewers are acquiring left-handed reliever Andrew Chafin from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, according to a source. It's unclear what the Brewers are sending the D-backs in return. The 33-year-old veteran southpaw picked up a career-high eight saves in 43 appearances out of Arizona's bullpen this year, but he wasn't needed after the Diamondbacks acquired Paul Sewald from the Seattle Mariners on Monday. Along with his eight saves, Chafin had a 4.19 ERA (3.13 FIP), 1.43 WHIP, 18 walks and 49 strikeouts in 34 1/3 relief innings. Devin Williams is the established closer in Milwaukee already, so Chafin won't be entering a committee approach to saves with his new team. It will mean slightly less fantasy value in deeper leagues, although he could still pick up the occasional hold in a setup role.
