3 years agoThe New Orleans Saints signed free agent kicker Brett Maher on Monday. The team had to turn to the free-agent market after news broke that starter Wil Lutz (core) required surgery to repair a core muscle injury, which will sideline him for at least eight weeks. A two-year veteran, Maher played in 29 games for the Cowboys from 2018 to 2019, connecting on 49 of 66 field-goal tries and 68 of 69 extra-point attempts. The 31-year-old will presumably compete for the starting job for the first several games of the season until Lutz is ready to return. Often a stable environment to target a fantasy kicker, New Orleans is probably best avoided for that position in 2021.--Tim Capurso
