Brett Gardner Readies For Veteran Role With Yankees
Brett Gardner at the leadoff spot for Thursday’s Opening Day lineup. The 34-year-old is getting set for his 11th season in the majors coming off a career year. Last season, Gardner hit a personal-best 21 home runs, joining his fellow Bronx Bombers. This spring he got in 49 plate appearances, hitting just .224. While he may no longer be able to steal 40 bases in a season, his newfound power keeps him as a valuable commodity who was surely drafted in most formats. Against Thursday’s opposing pitcher, J.A. Happ, Gardner is a career .300 hitter with a home run and five runs scored.
