Brett Baty Enjoying Red-Hot Spring
2 years agoNew York Mets third baseman Brett Baty is raking this spring in his bid for an Opening Day roster spot. Baty has hit one home run with a double on his ledger, but he's also hitting a hefty .458 alongside a 1.177 OPS across 24 spring at-bats. The 23-year-old also has four walks against six strikeouts while collecting two stolen bases across 12 Grapefruit League contests. Baty debuted with the Mets in the 2022 season but struggled to a .184 batting average with two homers across 42 trips to the plate. He spent the bulk of last season at the Double-A level, posting a robust .312/.406/.544 slash line with 19 homers across 89 games. He's competing with veteran Eduardo Escobar for reps at third base, but he could also see time at designated hitter if he can stay hot entering the 2023 campaign.
