1 year agoOakland A's outfielder Brent Rooker is back in the starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Blue Jays and left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu. Rooker didn't appear in Tuesday night's 7-1 loss against a tough right-hander in Chris Bassitt but will re-enter the lineup and hit second while manning left field on Wednesday. The 28-year-old has enjoyed a breakout season in 2023, hitting .242 with 23 home runs, two stolen bases, and a .792 OPS across 117 appearances, production that grades out 20% above the league average, as per his 120 wRC+. Rooker has made just one trip to the plate in his career against Ryu, logging a double off the veteran lefty and he's hitting .273 with an .838 OPS and 133 wRC+ versus left-handed pitching this season.--Brenton Kemp
