Brendan Steele Makes First Open Championship Cut
6 years agoBrendan Steele had missed all three cuts in his career at the Open Championship before Carnoustie. The American ended Thursday at three-under par and near the top of the leaderboard, but a five-over 76 on Friday plummeted him off the first page. Steele managed to play the final two days at one-over par, but the damage was done already from his second round efforts, and the 58th-ranked golfer in the world ended the tournament in a share of 47th place. The 35-year-old is long off the tee and has provided some decent showings at the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship in his career, although he has never posted a top-10 finish in a Major. Steele will be an intriguing name to keep in mind for the PGA Championship in August. He has missed his last two cuts at PGA Championship venues but has managed to provide two top-20 showings in his other three appearances.
