6 years agoBrendan Steele had missed all three cuts in his career at the Open Championship before Carnoustie. The American ended Thursday at three-under par and near the top of the leaderboard, but a five-over 76 on Friday plummeted him off the first page. Steele managed to play the final two days at one-over par, but the damage was done already from his second round efforts, and the 58th-ranked golfer in the world ended the tournament in a share of 47th place. The 35-year-old is long off the tee and has provided some decent showings at the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship in his career, although he has never posted a top-10 finish in a Major. Steele will be an intriguing name to keep in mind for the PGA Championship in August.
