Brendan Rodgers Sent To Minor League Camp
6 years agoColorado Rockies top prospect Brendan Rodgers was officially optioned to the minors on Saturday after an impressive spring. Widely considered one of the top 10 prospects in the game, one of the only knocks on Rodgers has been his high strikeout rate and impatience at the plate. That was exemplified last spring training when Rodgers struck out 13 times in 49 at-bats. This time around, he only struck out three times in 36 at-bats. His other biggest complicating factor has been a spot to play. Trevor Story occupies Rodgers’ given position of shortstop, and Nolan Arenado mans third. This would make Rodgers a perfect fit for second base, but fellow top prospect Ryan McMahon is expected to cover that spot while newly-signed Daniel Murphy takes over first base. In the long run, Rodgers’ bat is expected to force the Rockies to make some move, but it looks like they’re comfortable letting him continue to develop in the minors for now.
