Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (forearm) will make a minor-league rehab start with Single-A Jupiter on Thursday and will go either three innings or 50 pitches. Garrett has been given the green light to pitch in games again after throwing a live batting practice session over the weekend and a bullpen on Tuesday. Because of the fact that the 27-year-old southpaw has been on the injured list since the middle of June, he's likely going to need at least a couple of rehab starts, which means he probably won't be able to make more than one or two starts in the big leagues to close out the season. Fantasy managers can't be expecting much from Garrett the rest of the way, especially since he's made only seven starts in 2024. In those seven starts, he posted a 5.35 ERA (3.83 FIP) and 1.19 WHIP with 34 strikeouts and only four walks in 37 innings.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Braxton Garrett (elbow) was diagnosed with a left elbow impingement on Friday. Garrett had been undergoing further evaluation last week after suffering a setback during a bullpen session in mid-September. He will be continuing a throwing progression program at the Marlins' player development complex in Jupiter, FL. The lefty's last start was on June 17th and he only made seven starts in 2024. He started the season on the IL with a shoulder impingement that held him out of major league action until May and then experienced elbow discomfort prior to his scheduled start on June 23rd. The 27-year-old has shown promise when healthy, posting a 3.58 ERA in 2022 and a 3.66 ERA in 2023. But with injuries piling up, fantasy managers may start to wonder how much value he can have going forward. Fantasy managers should keep a close eye on his progress going into spring training and take caution if he's on their roster in 2025.--Kevin Larson - RotoBaller

Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (forearm) began playing catch this week after being put on the 15-day injured list back on June 23 with a left-forearm strain. The Marlins are being careful with the 26-year-old southpaw given his history of arm injuries, but it sounds like he's finally ramping up as he prepares to return to Miami's starting rotation in the second half of the 2024 season. Before returning to the big-league pitching staff, Garrett is going to need at least a couple minor-league rehab starts, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect him back until at least mid-August. The former seventh overall pick in 2016 struggled in his first seven starts earlier this year before going on the shelf, recording a 5.35 ERA (3.80 FIP) and 1.19 WHIP with a 21.1% strikeout rate but with a strong 2.5% walk rate in 37 frames.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Miami Marlins starter Braxton Garrett (forearm) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left forearm flexor strain on Sunday morning. He was scratched from Sunday's start with reported elbow soreness, but now his ailment is clearer. Kyle Tyler was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move and will start Sunday's game. The Marlins rotation has been decimated by injuries this season and Garrett is no exception. The 26-year-old produced a 5.35 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 34:4 K:BB through seven starts in 2024. It is unclear at this time whether Garrett will need surgery as additional testing still needs to be done. Nevertheless, it seems like he will be sidelined for a significant period of time.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBaller

Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett is experiencing elbow discomfort and will not make Sunday's start against the visiting Seattle Mariners. He is currently under evaluation on Saturday. The 26-year-old's season got off to a late start due to a shoulder issue and it appears an elbow ailment could potentially cause him to miss additional time. Garrett has endured an up-and-down season that has seen him pitch to a 5.35 ERA across seven starts but his 3.39 xFIP, 3.32 SIERA, and quality 18.6% K-BB% all suggest he has been much better than his surface ERA indicates. Fantasy managers have been frustrated by the way 2024 has gone on the heels of a 3.66 ERA and 19.3% K-BB% in 2023 but the prudent move is to exercise some patience and keep an eye on the southpaw's status in the coming days.--Brenton Kemp
