Braxton Garrett Resumes Playing Catch
3 months agoMiami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (forearm) began playing catch this week after being put on the 15-day injured list back on June 23 with a left-forearm strain. The Marlins are being careful with the 26-year-old southpaw given his history of arm injuries, but it sounds like he's finally ramping up as he prepares to return to Miami's starting rotation in the second half of the 2024 season. Before returning to the big-league pitching staff, Garrett is going to need at least a couple minor-league rehab starts, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect him back until at least mid-August. The former seventh overall pick in 2016 struggled in his first seven starts earlier this year before going on the shelf, recording a 5.35 ERA (3.80 FIP) and 1.19 WHIP with a 21.1% strikeout rate but with a strong 2.5% walk rate in 37 frames.
