Braves Give Brian McCann One-Year Deal
6 years agoThe Atlanta Braves signed free-agent catcher Brian McCann to a one-year, $2 million deal on Monday, according to a source. McCann will return to the team that he started his career with and spent the first nine seasons of his career with. The 34-year-old could be looking at the final season of his career after he hit just .212/.301/.339 with seven homers and 23 RBI in 63 games with the Astros in 2018. With Kurt Suzuki likely departing in free agency, it would seem that McCann and Tyler Flowers will form a platoon behind the dish in 2019. McCann will often be rested and will mainly be an option against right-handed pitchers in two-catcher formats.
