Braves Call Up Jonathan Lucroy
4 years agoThe Atlanta Braves called up catcher Jonathan Lucroy from Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday and optioned catcher William Contreras to Gwinnett in a corresponding move. The team also transferred left-hander Grant Dayton (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list. The veteran Lucroy had five hits in 14 at-bats with the Washington Nationals earlier this season but had a slash line of just .220/.351/.330 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 31 games with Gwinnett before the call-up. The 35-year-old will split time with Kevan Smith behind the dish, and he may not even be much of an option in two-catcher leagues. He's behind the plate and batting eight on Wednesday against Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Wil Crowe. Contreras hit just .204 (29-for-142) but did have seven home runs and 21 RBI for Atlanta.
