4 years agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff gave up three runs Thursday in a no-decision against the Twins. Woodruff allowed six hits and two walks while fanning five across four innings. Woodruff got the nod for opening day for the second straight season but wasn't very effective in this contest lasting only four innings. He did well to minimize the damage, and the 28-year-old should find more success going forward. He posted a career-best 3.05 ERA in 2020 across 13 starts and hopes to continue that success over a full season in 2021. He's a flamethrower and fantasy owners need not worry about him going forward.--James Stokke

3 days agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) made his first rehab start with Triple-A Nashville on Saturday. This was the first time that Woodruff has been on the mound since having shoulder surgery last year. He tossed 3 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs, and striking out five batters. He threw 66 pitches and 44 of them for strikes as he topped out at 95.1 mph on his fastball. The 32-year-old will likely still need to make a few more rehab appearances before rejoining the Brewers rotation. The hope is that Woodruff can return to the big league rotation by the end of April or early May.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

4 days agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) is set to make his first rehab start at Triple-A Nashville on Friday. Woodruff hasn't pitched in an MLB game since 2023, but is finally nearing his return to the big league mound. The plan is for Woodruff to work four innings and throw around 65 pitches on Saturday. The expectation is that Woodruff will need two or three more outings before joining the big league staff. His timetable appears to be the end of April or early May. Fantasy managers shouldn't rush to the waiver wire to add Woodruff. He hasn't thrown a big league pitch in quite some time, so might want to take a wait-and-see approach here.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) is set to throw a three-inning sim game on Tuesday. He is then expected to throw another sim game on April 7 and then could eventually be cleared to make a start in extended spring training or in the minor leagues. Woodruff is working his way back from capsule surgery. He was unable to pitch at all during the 2024 campaign. In 2023, Woodruff logged 67 innings and posted a 2.28 ERA with a stellar 0.82 WHIP. He tallied 74 punchouts. During the 2023 campaign, the 32-year-old posted a strong 3.05 ERA with a 1.07 WHIP with a stellar 190 punchouts in 153 1/3 innings of work. When he is cleared to return to the big leagues, Woodruff will likely rejoin the starting rotation as the Brewers have numerous injuries in their rotation, including Aaron Civale (hamstring), who hit the 15-day IL on Monday.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

4 weeks agoMilwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) threw two innings in a minor-league game on Friday and was up to 95 mph on the radar gun, according to manager Pat Murphy. Woodruff will go with the team to New York to face the Yankees on Opening Day next Thursday and will throw an extended bullpen session in the Bronx before returning to Milwaukee for a long simulated game. After that, the 32-year-old veteran will begin a minor-league rehab assignment before eventually making his 2025 debut. There's still no timetable for Woodruff to make his first major-league start since 2023 after having shoulder surgery, and fantasy managers shouldn't expect that to happen until at least some point in March. His extended absence means he'll have limited fantasy upside in 2025 due to an innings limit, but the former ace is still worth stashing in most fantasy leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
