3 years agoThe striking department is what led the fifth-ranked Brandon Royval to a close split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) on Saturday over the seventh-ranked Rogerio Bontorin. Royal only landed 40 significant strikes, but it was more than the 28 he absorbed from Bontorin. The issue for Royval came in the takedown department, where he was only able to stuff one of Bontorin's eight attempts on the night. The patient striking paid off for Royval and showed fantasy managers that his mixed martial arts game is evolving before our eyes.--Matt Bricker
