Brandon Lowe Goes 0-For-4 From Leadoff Spot
3 years agoTampa Bay Rays second baseman/outfielder Brandon Lowe served as the team's leadoff hitter against Jameson Taillon and the New York Yankees on Monday. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to get out of his current cold streak as he went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in the game. Lowe has nine home runs over 51 games on the year, but he is slashing just .189/.307/.372 with 66 strikeouts. The whiffs have always been a problem for him. He cut down a bit last year, dropping his strikeout rate from 34.6% in 2019 to 25.9% in 2020. However, this year, his strikeout rate is back up to 31.3%. He also currently has a career-low 35.7% hard-hit rate, down from 43.1% last year. Lowe is going to struggle to match his production from last year at this rate, but at the very least he should be a solid source of home runs.
