Brandon Belt Diagnosed With A Fractured Thumb
3 years agoSan Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt (thumb) underwent X-rays on Monday, which revealed a fractured thumb. He exited Sunday's game early after getting hit in the hand by a pitch while attempting a bunt. The 33-year-old will continue to meet with doctors to develop a recovery plan and a timetable for a return. Belt is considered day-to-day, but the injury comes at a terrible time for the Giants first baseman with the playoffs starting next week. He slashed .349/.451/.721 with nine home runs, 18 RBI and 23 runs through September before getting injured. Tommy La Stella will handle first base duties while Belt is sidelined. The 32-year-old is starting to heat up and is hitting .429 (6-for-14) with a home run and three RBI over his last four games. Fantasy managers looking for a replacement for Belt can add La Stella for the season's final week.
