Brandon Aiyuk A Possible WR3 In Week 6
2 years agoSan Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who plays the Atlanta Falcons in Week 6, has yet to have the breakout some had hoped for since his strong finish to last season. He has finished as a WR4 three times in the first five weeks, which would only be a borderline flex play, and never higher. Aiyuk's problem is mainly volume. He is the No. 2 receiving option on a run-heavy team. Coach Kyle Shanahan is satisfied with how he's doing: "When we've gone to B.A., he's done a hell of a job. He had some opportunities last week that we just didn't get it to him on which would've helped his stats and helped perception, but that's all it is to me is really perception and B.A.'s playing his ass off." His Week 6 matchup against a shaky Falcons defense could give him his greatest opportunity for a breakout yet. The Falcons allow the fourth-most passing yards per game and have one of the worst pass rushes in the NFL, according to PFF. Don't expect the Niners' identity as a run-first team to change, however. Aiyuk may have the upside to bump up to a WR3 this week.
