Brandin Cooks Target Share Could Be Down
6 years agoThis offseason, the Los Angeles Rams traded for wide receiver Brandin Cooks. The former New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints receiver added to a budding receiving corps. While Cooks was presumed to be the featured target in this new offense, new information poses that might not be true after all. Robert Woods was the lead dog last season at roughly a 25 percent target share, while since departed long-ball hitter Sammy Watkins ranked only ranked 3rd in target share on the team. While Cooks is not a one-trick pony that only catches the long ball, where he will take the majority of the share from Watkins, he has not shown a ton of success in the intermediate ranges. Per ESPN, Cooks is going as WR 24, which is two ahead of Woods and 14 ahead of Cooper Kupp. Woods looked like the lead receiver last season, and that could hold the season, which should temper the expectations on Cooks this season.
