Brad Hand Suffers Meltdown Against Giants
7 years agoSan Diego Padres closer Brad Hand suffered a blown save and loss Monday night against the San Francisco Giants. Called upon for a multi-inning save, Hand retired consecutive batters in the eighth without issue but was a disaster in the ninth. Spotted a two-run lead, Hand walked two batters and surrendered two hits, leading to three earned runs, including a walk-off two-run single by pinch hitter Nick Hundley. Hand's control was off all evening and the Giants made him work through 37 pitches. The meltdown ballooned his ERA from 1.46 to 3.29 with a 1.24 WHIP. His job isn't in jeopardy but it's a discouraging missed opportunity for Hand, who hasn't earned a save since April 14. He'll likely be unavailable Tuesday, but fantasy owners should continue utilizing his closer services until otherwise noted.
