Blue Jays Select Gunnar Hoglund With 19th Overall Pick In Draft
3 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays selected college hurler Gunnar Hoglund with their first-round pick in the 2021 amateur draft. When the year began, he was expected to go higher in the draft but his season was cut short by Tommy John surgery. Despite the injury, Rotoballer had him ranked as the seventh-best talent available. He has a chance at four average-or-better offerings with an excellent pitcher's frame and a long track record of success. He was selected 36th overall out of high school in 2018 by the Pittsburgh Pirates but he chose to go to college. Toronto now has an intriguing collection of young arms including Alek Manoah, Nate Pearson, Simeon Woods Richardson, and Hoglund -- once he signs.
