Blue Jays Pick Up Chad Green's Two-Year Option
1 year agoThe Toronto Blue Jays announced on Monday that they exercised their $21 million two-year option on relief pitcher Chad Green. The 32-year-old veteran right-hander only tossed 12 innings in 12 appearances out of the bullpen in 2023 after debuting in September in his return from Tommy John surgery he had in June of 2022. Unsurprisingly, Green wasn't all that effective, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on 12 hits while walking four and striking out 16. He has 11 career saves in his eight big-league seasons and could be a valuable late-inning bullpen piece for Toronto the next two years if he can stay healthy. Green has a career 3.24 ERA (3.27 FIP) and 1.03 WHIP with a 6.4 percent walk rate and 32.4 percent strikeout rate in 395 2/3 innings pitched.
