Blake Snell, Seattle Mariners Rumors Fly After Visit To Seahawks Game
12 months agoA visit to Seattle as the special guest of the Seattle Seahawks has spiked rumors that the lefty starter and the Seattle Mariners could have mutual interest.
Snell, a native of Washington that graduated from Seattle suburb Shoreline before being a first-round draft pick by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2011. He spent his first five MLB seasons with the Rays, winning the Cy Young for Tampa Bay in 2018. He's pitched the last three seasons for the San Diego Padres after a trade from the Rays.
The 2023 season was an impressive one for Snell, as he posted a 14-9 record and 2.25 ERA over 180 innings, with 234 strikeouts, earning him his second career Cy Young Award. In his eight pro seasons, Snell, who will turn 31 in December, has won 71 games over 191 starts with a 3.20 ERA and 1,223 strikeouts over 992 2/3 innings.
The 6'4" left-hander should have wide interest as one of the best pitchers in the market, but with a need in the rotation for Seattle and his continued residence in the Seattle area in the offseason make the Mariners a logical potential fit.
