Blake Snell Punches Out Nine Over Seven Innings In Victory
1 year agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell dominated on Monday, tossing seven shutout innings while limiting the Cardinals to just two hits to go along with nine strikeouts and five walks in a 4-1 victory. While the five free passes are a blemish on the stat line, Snell still handled the Cardinals with ease, limiting them to just two hits. This also marked the eighth time this season that he's punched out nine or more batters. While the walks have been a bit of an issue all season for the veteran southpaw, he's done an excellent job working around the traffic and preventing runs. Overall, he owns a stellar 11-9 record, 2.60 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 193:85 K/BB ratio over 149 innings (27 starts). The 30-year-old lefty has a real shot to take home the NL Cy Young, which would be his second time winning that award after earning the honor in 2018 as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays. He'll take on the San Francisco Giants at home in his next turn.
