Billy Horschel Gaining Some Momentum
4 years agoBilly Horschel has been playing well over his last three tournaments with a couple T5 finishes and a T24 finish. This will be Horschel's 11th career start at the Farmers Insurance Open, but he has just two top-10 finishes over 10 career starts. He ranks 57th in strokes gained off the tee and 61st in scrambling on the season, but his approach shots seem to be the most concerning part of his game coming into the week. Long approach shots are particularly troubling as he ranks just 240th in approaches from 200 yards or more. Horschel has consistently made the cut this season but is probably not the most attractive DFS option this week.

Billy Horschel Searching For Consistency At Bay Hill
1 month agoBilly Horschel has been a quintessential boom-or-bust player this year, recording three missed cuts and three top-25 finishes in his last six starts, including a T25 at the Cognizant Classic last week. He now looks to find consistency at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, an event he has played 11 times, making the cut nine times and finishing as high as T2 in 2022. To repeat this success, he will need to be sharp off the tee and excel with hitting long irons into the fast TifEagle Bermudagrass greens at Bay Hill. Horschel ranks 143rd in total driving and 66th in strokes gained on approach (0.240 gained per round). He is also in the 43rd percentile for proximity from 150-200 yards, which accounts for 35.5% of all approach shots at this course, and 158th in proximity from 200-plus yards, which accounts for 31.7% of approach shots. Given his strong track record here, Horschel is likely to make the cut, but fantasy managers will need him to sharpen his approach game for him to be a home run sleeper pick.

Billy Horschel Misses Second Straight Cut
1 month agoBilly Horschel missed the cut at the Genesis Invitational two weeks ago and is now focusing on preparing for this week's Cognizant Classic at PGA National Resort. Historically, Horschel has performed well at the Cognizant Classic, finishing tied for ninth in 2024, 42nd in 2023, and 16th in 2022, when the tournament was known as the Honda Classic. Over the past 12 months, Horschel has ranked in the 42nd percentile for proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway. This is significant, as over 44% of approach shots at last year's Cognizant Classic came from this distance. Despite missing the cut in two consecutive tournaments, Horschel's past performance at this event suggests he could be a valuable addition to DFS lineups this week.

Billy Horschel Hopes Scottsdale Was Just A Blip
2 months agoBilly Horschel has had an intriguing 2025 so far. The American golfer looked right for consecutive weeks and finished T-9th at Pebble Beach. However, the WM Phoenix Open and Sony Open were different stories sandwiched in. Horschel missed the cut (+1) at Scottsdale due to a lack of birdies. Round 2 was a wild ride with bogeys and eagles along with everything in between. He plays best when the putts are falling. Overall putting has been average this year where he ranked 21st in strokes gained to putting in 2024. It is early but maybe some softer greens from expected rains at Torrey Pines will help Horschel and some other normally good putters.

Billy Horschel A Fade Candidate At American Express
3 months agoBilly Horschel is a risky proposition at PGA West this week. The 38-year-old Tour veteran certainly comes with win equity, but his recent form and course history should give fantasy managers pause. Since his victory at the BMW PGA Championship last September, he's missed the cut in three out of his five starts with his best finish being a 47th-place showing at the DP World Tour Championship. Horschel's also kicked off the 2025 calendar year with a 51st-place result at the Sentry and a missed cut at last week's Sony Open. Over the last 36 rounds, he ranks outside of the top-45 in key statistical categories this week, including good drive percentage, approach play, around-the-green, putting, and par 3 and par 5 scoring. He's also missed the cut in his last three appearances at PGA West. All signs should point to fading Horschel for fantasy managers this week.
