Bennett Sousa's Season Is Over
8 months agoHouston Astros reliever Bennett Sousa (shoulder) underwent surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome on Wednesday and is expected to miss the rest of the season, the team announced on Thursday. Shoulder inflammation landed the 28-year-old left-hander on the 15-day injured to start the 2024 season, and now he'll look to recover for the 2025 season. The former 10th-round selection by the Chicago White Sox in 2018 out of Virginia spent part of last year with the Astros, tossing 6 1/3 relief innings while walking none and striking out eight. In his two seasons in the big leagues, Sousa has a 7.06 ERA (4.76 FIP), a 1.47 WHIP, one save, 12 walks and 22 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings out of the bullpen for Houston, Milwaukee and Chicago.
