Ben Brown Continues Rocky Season At Triple-A Iowa
1 year agoChicago Cubs pitching prospect Ben Brown has seen his struggles carry over from a rough June to an equally difficult July. Brown has a July ERA of 5.51, with eight walks in only 16 1/3 innings of work. This comes on the heels of a 6.75 ERA in June, with 16 walks in 19 2/3 innings. Overall, Brown owns a 4.98 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and an 82:31 K: BB across 56 innings in Triple-A Iowa. While the tall righty can flash a potent mix of stuff, the inability to throw strikes could eventually lead him to a bullpen role. The Cubs continue to develop him as a starter. However, with the 23-year-old already in his sixth season on the farm, time is running out on that projection. Unless Brown pushes his way into a closer role in the future, there is limited fantasy value given the recent production.
