Bears Unlikely To Move On From Justin Fields?
1 year agoThe Chicago Bears currently hold the No. 1 overall pick for next year, but they are unlikely to move on from quarterback Justin Fields and would need to be blown away by a rookie QB to move on from Fields three years after taking him 11th overall in 2021, according to sources. Fields is back in the starting lineup in Week 11 against the Detroit Lions after missing four games due to a dislocated right thumb, so their evaluation of him will continue the rest of the year. If Chicago is convinced that Fields is their franchise signal-caller after these next seven games, they will use their early picks in 2024 to build around and support him. Before his injury, Fields was playing his best football, and he'll have QB1 upside on a weekly basis given his rushing prowess alone. As long as Fields doesn't completely collapse these final seven games, Chicago is likely to pick up his fifth-year option this offseason.

Steelers Prefer Justin Fields Over Russell Wilson?
6 days agoThe sense that ESPN's Jeremy Fowler has gotten is that quarterback Justin Fields has an edge over veteran Russell Wilson in the Pittsburgh Steelers' free-agent QB pecking order this offseason. Fowler goes on to write that there is sentiment for Fields in the building, and both sides would be open to a return. However, the team isn't ruling out Wilson, and they still have another week before deciding how to move forward in free agency. Even if the Steelers don't bring Fields back, he'll have options on the open market. The New York Jets are expected to gauge his market, and he could also be a nice fit for the Las Vegas Raiders. Although Wilson gave the Steelers more offensive upside when he took over under center in 2024, Fields is a more dynamic athlete at this point and is younger. The 25-year-old went 4-2 with 1,106 passing yards, five TDs and a pick in his six starts while also running for 289 yards and five TDs.

Raiders Expected To Consider Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Sam Darnold
1 week agoThe Las Vegas Raiders are now expected to investigate veteran quarterback options that include free-agents Russell Wilson, Justin Fields and Sam Darnold, sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Raiders recently met with quarterback Matthew Stafford and reportedly offered him a two-year deal worth up to $90-100 million guaranteed, but Stafford instead chose to restructure his deal to stay in L.A. With Stafford now off the table, Vegas will turn to their backup options, including both of the Pittsburgh Steelers' impending free-agent signal-callers. Aidan O'Connell and Gardner Minshew III are currently on the roster, but the new Raiders coaching staff prefers a veteran with experience, and Minshew is expected to be released. The most obvious fit is Wilson due to his history with head coach Pete Carroll in Seattle, but he's also 36 years old and fizzled out down the stretch in his first year in the Steel City.

Steelers Hope To Reach Deal With Russell Wilson, Justin Fields Before Free Agency
2 weeks agoThe Pittsburgh Steelers are aiming to reach a new deal with quarterbacks Justin Fields or Russell Wilson before the start of free agency, according to general manager Omar Khan. Both signal-callers spent the 2024 season with Pittsburgh but are scheduled to be free agents when free agency begins on March 12. The Steelers have engaged in talks with both quarterbacks, and they believe both Fields and Wilson are interested in returning. Wilson threw for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 10 games, while Fields threw for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception in 11 appearances. Neither QB is likely viewed as the long-term answer in Pittsburgh, but having at least one of them on the roster in 2025 appears to be in the plans for Pittsburgh.

Steelers Comfortable With Justin Fields As Starting QB?
1 month agoESPN's Jeremy Fowler writes that some in the Pittsburgh Steelers organization are comfortable with Justin Fields as the starting quarterback in 2025. Fields has upside and more mobility than impending free-agent QB Russell Wilson. However, an NFC executive said that Fields didn't have much chemistry with wide receiver George Pickens, so that could play a part in who the Steelers choose to move forward with in 2025. Both Fields and Wilson will be free agents in March, and the Steelers are only expected to keep one of them moving forward. The 25-year-old Fields may be a better rushing asset than Wilson, but what he gains in mobility, he lacks in downfield passing and accuracy. The former first-rounder of the Chicago Bears in 2021 went 4-2 as a starter for Pittsburgh in 2024, throwing for 1,106 yards, five TDs and one pick while also rushing for 289 yards and five more scores.
