Bears Considering Trade For Cam Newton
5 years agoThe Carolina Panthers have had recent contact with the Chicago Bears regarding a potential trade of quarterback Cam Newton, according to a source. The expectation now is that Newton will be released in the coming days, but the Bears may not want to compete with Newton on the free-agent market. Carolina signed Teddy Bridgewater to be their starting quarterback on Tuesday, making Newton expendable after he played in just two games due to a foot injury in 2019. It's unknown how healthy he exactly is, which makes trading for him a pretty big risk. Chicago is looking to bring in competition under center for Mitch Trubisky. If healthy, Newton should be able to win the starting gig over Trubisky, but he wouldn't be attractive as anything more than just a fantasy backup in Chicago.
