Avisail Garcia Lands On IL, Marlins Call Up Xavier Edwards
2 years agoThe Miami Marlins placed outfielder Avisail Garcia (back) on the 10-day injured list with back tightness on Tuesday and called up infield prospect Xavier Edwards from the minors in a corresponding move. Perhaps this is good news for Garcia, as he can get some rest after starting 2023 with a putrid .188/.243/.333 slash line with a double, three home runs and eight RBI in 22 games. He can obviously be dropped in shallow mixed leagues. Edwards is the team's No. 12 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and he'll be making his MLB debut when he gets into a game. The 23-year-old switch-hitter was hitting .306 (22-for-72) with two doubles, a triple, four RBI and seven steals in 20 games for Triple-A Jacksonville before his call-up. Edwards will likely serve in a utility role off the bench, so he's probably not worth a pickup in mixed leagues just yet.
