Auston Matthews Begins Training Camp On Injured Reserve
3 years agoToronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews (wrist) has been listed on his team's Injured Reserve list as training camp opened on Wednesday. The 24-year-old, who has already resumed skating, is currently recovering from offseason wrist surgery performed on Aug. 13. Matthews' expected recovery time was a minimum of six weeks when the injury was announced. As a result, the Leafs are still expecting their top-line center to be ready to go by the team's first game on Oct. 13. The Arizona native is coming off his best season to date, having led the NHL in goals (41) while posting 66 points, a plus-21 rating, 13 power-play points, 222 shots and 57 hits in 52 games last season.
