3 years agoToronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews (wrist) has been listed on his team's Injured Reserve list as training camp opened on Wednesday. The 24-year-old, who has already resumed skating, is currently recovering from offseason wrist surgery performed on Aug. 13. Matthews' expected recovery time was a minimum of six weeks when the injury was announced. As a result, the Leafs are still expecting their top-line center to be ready to go by the team's first game on Oct. 13. The Arizona native is coming off his best season to date, having led the NHL in goals (41) while posting 66 points, a plus-21 rating, 13 power-play points, 222 shots and 57 hits in 52 games last season.--Chase Davis - RotoBaller

2 months agoToronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews (upper body) will return to the lineup on Saturday against Boston. The Maple Leafs finally get their leading man back after Matthews sat out six games due to a recurrence of an upper-body injury. Matthews is just short of averaging a point per game for the season, sitting on 11 goals and 12 assists through 24 appearances. He was riding a four-game point streak before landing on the shelf. The star forward will take over as the first-line center from John Tavares, with Matthew Knies and Mitchell Marner as his wingers. Tavares drops to the second line while David Kampf lands back on the fourth.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

2 months agoToronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews (upper body) will be sidelined for a sixth consecutive game on Thursday against the Islanders. Matthews returned to practice this week but isn't ready to rejoin the lineup yet. However, his comeback appears to be close, and Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has not ruled Matthews out for the team's upcoming back-to-back against Boston and Philadelphia over the weekend. John Tavares and David Kampf will likely continue to center the scoring lines in Thursday's game. Tavares is in the midst of an eight-game point streak, scoring seven goals during the stretch, while Kampf has tallied two goals across the past three games.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
