Austin Romine Comes Up Small In Embarrassing Loss
6 years agoBefore former New York Yankees All-Star catcher Gary Sanchez sustained and later aggravated a groin injury, many fans of the Yankees were calling for backup catcher Austin Romine to become the starter. After all, Sanchez was struggling and Romine was excelling. Now, however, as the starter in Sanchez’s absence, the 29-year-old is proving he may not be capable of being an everyday player. In Wednesday’s defeat to the Baltimore Orioles, Romine picked up one hit in four plate appearances, stranding a game-high five runners on base. The Yankees have suffered mightily from stranding runners on base this season. As for Romine, he’s hitting just .211 across his last 30 games.
