Austin Gomber Hit Around By Cards On Friday
4 years agoColorado Rockies LHP Austin Gomber took the loss on Friday when he surrendered five runs on six hits with seven strikeouts in a 5-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Gomber had a rough go against his former team on Friday. Harrison Bader tagged him for a two-run shot in the bottom of the second inning before opposing starting pitcher Jack Flaherty cranked a solo home run in the third. The 27-year-old lefty gave up two more runs in the fifth inning before exiting. There was some good, however, as he punched out seven and didn't walk a batter. Gomber issued 19 walks over his first five starts of the year but has only walked one over his last two, which is a major sign of improvement. He now owns a 6.35 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and 34:20 K/BB ratio across 34 innings (seven starts) this season. He faces the Padres at home in his next turn and should not be started for fantasy purposes.
