Austin Ekeler Remains Elite Dual-Threat Weapon
4 years agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler is the unquestioned No. 1 option in the Chargers backfield ahead of Sunday's season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. Daniel Popper of The Athletic recently mentioned that Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelley could also see a handful of touches in the offense, but there is no doubt that Ekeler is the featured piece. The 25-year-old ran 132 times for 557 yards and three touchdowns in 2019 and also delivered 92 receptions for 993 yards and eight more touchdowns. He is a stalwart in PPR leagues but projects to have RB1 value in all formats in 2020. Jackson, on the other hand, is nothing more than a handcuff, especially if he cedes carries to Kelley.
