Austin Ekeler Falls Seven Yards Short
5 years agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler got plenty of opportunities on Sunday, but the Kansas City Chiefs were prepared for the shifty back. Ekeler was on the precipice of breaking the 1,000-yard mark for receiving yards, giving LA a trio of 1,000-yard receivers, but he ended up just seven yards short of the mark. Ekeler hauled in nine receptions, his second-most in any game this season, but he was hit almost instantly on every catch. The 4.8 yards per reception was his second-worst pace of the year. Ekeler is now a restricted free agent and with starting running back Melvin Gordon hitting the open market as well, Ekeler could find himself with the starting gig next year in LA. It will be an interesting offseason.
