5 years agoFor the second straight week, the Cup Series had a surprise winner. Richard Childress Racing's Austin Dillon won Sunday's O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Dillon started in the 21st position and quietly ran just outside the top-10 all day. A great strategy call, after a caution with 29 laps to go, put Dillon and his RCR teammate, Tyler Reddick, at the front of the field. From there, Dillon passed his rookie teammate and then held off the hard-charging pack, on multiple restarts, to win his first race since the 2018 Daytona 500. Dillon led 22 laps in the race, and his win firmly puts him in a playoff spot, shaking up the post-season picture, with eight races to go in the regular season.--John Pitucci - RotoBaller

1 week agoAustin Dillon of Richard Childress Racing will start 23rd for this week's Cup Series race at Darlington Raceway, the Goodyear 400. Dillon's starting position in this race is the same exact one as last year's spring race at the site. In 17 races at Darlington, Dillon has 14 top-20 finishes, including four of the last six Cup events. In seven races completed this season, Dillon has four top-20 finishes and obtained positive Place Differential three times. In practice, Dillon ranked sixth in overall lap averages while displaying top-10 speeds in the five, 10, and 15 consecutive lap average categories. Considering his upside, practice speeds, Darlington history, and salary ($6,300 on DraftKings), Dillon is one of the top value options of the week to utilize in all formats.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoRichard Childress Racing's Austin Dillon will start 18th for the Cook Out 400 at Martinsville Speedway this week. This will be the first top-20 start for Dillon this season since the second race of the season at Atlanta Motor Speedway. In 22 starts at Martinsville, Dillon has 13 top-20 finishes. He also has three finishes of 12th or better and has earned positive place differential four times since 2022. After six races so far this season, Dillon has three top-20 finishes while obtaining positive PD twice. In practice, Dillon ranked 29th in overall lap averages while failing to rank inside the top 20 on speed in all other categories. Dillon's history has overall been mixed at Martinsville, just like the 2025 season so far. Due to his slow practice speeds, Dillon is not the top recommendation available for DFS lineups around his salary range ($6,500 on DraftKings). Dillon's equipment and more recent positive results, however, should make him playable with small exposure in tournament games.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller

3 weeks agoEven though he qualified back in 30th for this weekend's Straight Talk Wireless 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Austin Dillon should be on your radar for a solid finish on Sunday. There are a few tracks on the schedule where Austin really excels, and Homestead is one of them. In 11 career starts here, he notched four top-10 finishes and just two results worse than 14th. Additionally, his average finish of 12.6 at this track ranks fifth-best among active drivers with more than one start at the track. In practice on Saturday, the No. 3 Chevrolet looked to be about a mid-pack or better car. Dillon ended up 18th-fastest on the single-lap speed chart and was 17th-best when it came to 30-lap average. In terms of DFS this weekend, Austin Dillon makes an excellent pick on DraftKings, as he is relatively cheap (at $6,300) and has a ton of Place Differential upside at one of his best tracks. --Jordan McAbee

4 weeks agoAustin Dillon has a decent record at Las Vegas, even though he hardly ever leads there. In 19 starts, he has finished in the top twenty 14 times and has been reliably consistent on a very low level, which suggests he will probably improve somewhat from his 22nd place starting position. However, he has only led 12 laps there (all before the advent of the Next Gen car), so it seems highly improbable that he will score much in the way of points for leading laps or fastest laps. Furthermore, Justin Alexander isn't his crew chief this year and he always runs worse without him than with him. He'll probably gain a couple positions, but not enough to make him a valuable pick for DFS especially since he costs closer to $7,000 than $6,000.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller
