Austin Dillon May Be a Dark Horse at New Hampshire After Strong Run at Gateway
5 months agoAustin Dillon will be starting 22nd at New Hampshire and you wouldn't think he'd be a top contender in this race when considering he only ranks 30th of 35 regular drivers in speed and his speed percentile on the four short superspeedways this year has been even worse. However, Dillon finished 9th in last year's race and he has seen an ever-so-slight uptick in performance since his most successful crew chief, Justin Alexander, returned at Martinsville, most notably at the last short track race at Gateway, where Dillon finished sixth and had his overwhelmingly best race and finish of the season. The Gateway race was the first time Dillon even had above-average speed in 12 races, so if Dillon and Alexander picked up something there that might be applicable to New Hampshire, Dillon might be an interesting dark horse contender.
