Austin Cook Can't Seem to Find His Early-Season Success
7 years agoThe 27-year-old Austin Cook got off to about the best start he could have ever dreamt of to start this season. He earned his PGA Tour card during the 2017 Web.com Tour season, and it didn't take him long to make his presence felt on the PGA Tour. Cook almost immediately captured his first career title at the RSM Classic and followed that win up with three more consecutive top-25s. One of those top-25s happened to be a T14 at the Career Builder Challenge, where Cook held a slim Saturday night lead over the field before collapsing on Sunday. Since the collapse, Cook has never been able to find his footing again. He does not have a finish that is better than T31 during the seven-event stretch and has a couple of missed cuts thrown into the mix. In his last 24 rounds, he ranks 113th in the field in strokes-gained approach and 126th in greens in regulation gained. He does, however, rank 15th in strokes gained around the green in his last 24 rounds, which could help on a course that only has about 55 percent of all approaches that land on the green. For the time being, though, Cook is a risky selection in all formats.
