Austin Barnes Will Catch First Game Monday
7 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers backup catcher Austin Barnes (elbow) will make his Cactus League debut on Monday behind the plate. Barnes has been on a reduced throwing program after he developed elbow problems on the eve of spring training. A clubhouse virus that made its way across the team earlier this week also delayed his first appearance. Despite his late-season success in 2017, Barnes will yield primary playing time to Yasmani Grandal, but he has second base eligibility and if he continues raking like last year, the Dodgers will find playing time for him. He's a great late-round flyer, especially since his ADP has dropped with the news of his backup status.
