Athletics Trade For Shortstop Elvis Andrus
4 years agoThe Oakland Athletics acquired shortstop Elvis Andrus from the Rangers in exchange for designated hitter Khris Davis. Catcher Jonah Heim and minor league pitcher Dane Acker will also head to Texas while Oakland is acquiring catcher Aramis Garcia and cash to offset Andrus' salary. Three weeks ago Texas announced Isiah Kiner-Falefa would take over at short and Andrus should prepare to play all infield positions. The move to Oakland will allow Andrus to remain at shortstop which he believes he can play at a high level despite lingering back problems that limited the 32-year-old to 29 games in 2020. Andrus is not on the fantasy radar in mixed-leagues after posting a career-worst .529 OPS last season and a .676 mark in 2018. AL-only managers hungry for steals, however, can follow Oakland's lead and take a flier on Andrus repeating 2019 when he stole 31 bases.
