5 months agoThe Oakland Athletics called up pitching prospect Michel Otanez on Monday for what would be his MLB debut. Otanez made 22 appearances for Triple-A this season, posting a 3.99 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and a strong 35.4% K% that came with a poor 11.8% BB%. Otanez was thrust into a high-leverage situation in his debut, coming in with the bases loaded and one out against the Padres. The 26-year-old walked the first batter he faced, then gave up a single and then a sacrifice fly, allowing three inherited runners to score before getting the final out of the inning. If he is able to get somewhere close to his 35.4% K% from Triple-A, he could be a useful source of strikeouts, but he did not strike anyone out in his debut, and strikeouts from Otanez may cost you WHIP anyway, so the righty is likely off the fantasy radar for now.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller
