Astros Place Justin Verlander On 15-Day Injured List
5 months agoThe Houston Astros placed right-hander Justin Verlander (neck) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to June 16) on Tuesday with neck discomfort and recalled right-hander Nick Hernandez from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move. Verlander was scratched from his start last Saturday with neck discomfort and is now headed to the IL because he is unable to make his next scheduled start this Thursday against the Chicago White Sox. It remains to be seen if the 41-year-old veteran will be able to return to Houston's rotation before the All-Star break in early July. The three-time Cy Young winner got a late start to the year due to shoulder issues and has made just 10 starts in 2024, going 3-2 with a 3.95 ERA and 1.21 WHIP with a 21.3% strikeout rate and a 7.1% walk rate. Verlander isn't the strikeout artist he once was, but he should still be stashed in all fantasy leagues.
