Astros Continuing To Pursue Jorge Polanco
1 month agoAccording to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, the Houston Astros are continuing to pursue free-agent infielder Jorge Polanco as a contingency plan if they fail to re-sign third baseman Alex Bregman. While the team's priority is to reunite with their long-time third baseman, Polanco would be the pivot if Bregman were to sign with another club. On Sunday, the Astros traded relief pitcher Ryan Pressly to the Chicago Cubs, which opened some salary space for the team to sign Bregman. If Bregman were to return, second baseman Jose Altuve would likely shift to the outfield. Polanco would be a much cheaper alternative. Last season, the 31-year-old posted a disappointing .213/.296/.355 slash line with just 16 home runs. He underwent surgery to repair a patellar tendon in his knee in October but is expected to be a full go for spring training and should be expected to bounce back. If Polanco were to sign with Houston, fantasy managers should expect him to play at either the keystone or the hot corner.
