Astros Close To Landing Robinson Chirinos
6 years agoThe Houston Astros are making significant progress toward a deal with free-agent catcher Robinson Chirinos, according to sources. A deal could already be in place, pending a physical. The Rangers curiously did not pick up Chirinos' 2019 option, making him a free agent. With only Max Stassi and Garrett Stubbs on the current roster, Chirinos would be the team's primary backstop if they officially sign him. The 34-year-old hit just .222 but had 18 homers and 65 RBI for Texas in 360 at-bats. At a shallow position, Chirinos has value in single-catcher leagues for his pop, and his outlook will improve slightly on a better team.
