A's Calling Up Tyler Soderstrom From Triple-A
1 year agoThe Oakland Athletics are calling up catching prospect Tyler Soderstrom from Triple-A Las Vegas, according to sources, and he's set to make his major-league debut on Friday for the start of the second half of the season against the visiting Minnesota Twins. Soderstrom, the club's top overall prospect per MLB Pipeline, will get the call after slashing .254/.303/.536 with an .838 OPS, 20 home runs, 15 doubles, two triples, 59 RBI and 45 runs scored in 304 trips to the plate over 69 games at Vegas. The 21-year-old left-handed slugger can also play some first base. In a lost season, the A's are going to give Soderstrom and infield prospect Zack Gelof significant playing time to begin the second half, making them both worth immediate waiver-wire pickups in deeper leagues. Soderstrom makes consistent contact to all fields, although fantasy managers shouldn't expect too much too soon.
