Aroldis Chapman To Face Live Hitters Next
2 years agoNew York Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) threw fastballs and sliders from the Yankee Stadium mound on June 14, and the coaches thought Chapman looked healthy. The next step will be for Chapman to face live hitters. He hasn't pitched in a major league game since May 22, but the 34-year-old southpaw is hoping to avoid a minor league rehab assignment. Before landing on the injured list, Chapman had a 3.86 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, nine saves, 15 strikeouts and 10 walks in 14 innings pitched. The hard-throwing left-hander will continue to see saves in the Yankees bullpen when he returns, but he could be sharing ninth-inning opportunities with Clay Holmes, who has been exceptional this year.
