Aristides Aquino Gets Cleanup Spot
6 years agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Aristides Aquino is batting fourth for the first time in his young career on Monday, playing right field. Josh VanMeter and Phillip Ervin are sitting for Cincinnati against Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Patrick Sandoval, who will be making his Major League debut. Aquino, 25, already has a home run in just 10 plate appearances this season after crushing 28 bombs at Triple-A. He makes for a tempting DFS play against Sandoval in a premium lineup spot.

Reds Designate Aristides Aquino For Assignment
3 years agoThe Cincinnati Reds designated outfielder Aristides Aquino for assignment on Saturday. In a corresponding move, the Reds selected pitcher Connor Overton's contract from Triple-A Louisville to start against the Colorado Rockies. Aquino was hitting just .049 with one home run in 15 games this year while going 2-for-41 with 23 strikeouts. The 28-year-old was hitless in his last 25 at-bats. There's a chance he could clear waivers and be outrighted to Louisville. Aquino was signed as a 16-year-old and made his big-league debut in 2018 before returning in August of 2019, when he wowed everyone by hitting 14 home runs in August and 19 overall in 56 games. In 122 games from 2020 through this year, Aquino hit .164 with a .618 OPS and 13 homers while striking out 38% of the time.

Aristides Aquino Batting Second In Season Opener
3 years agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Aristides Aquino is starting in right field and batting second in the team's season opener against left-hander Max Fried and the Atlanta Braves on Thursday. Nick Senzel and Tommy Pham are rounding out the starting outfield for the team with Tyler Naquin starting the season on the bench. The right-handed Aquino had a rough year in 2021, slashing just .190/.299/.408 over 84 games, but he still put together a sturdy 14.5% barrel rate. He has legit 30 home run potential if he can stay in the lineup and keep the strikeouts down, but those are both pretty big ifs at this point.
