Aric Almirola Will Have To Overcome Poor Starting Position
2 years agoAfter a relatively strong practice session at Phoenix Raceway on Friday, it was a bit of a surprise to see Aric Almirola so far down on the speed chart during qualifying on Saturday. However, the reason for this was because his car was so loose during his qualifying lap, making it very difficult to control and even more difficult to go fast. With that being said, there is still reason to believe that Almirola will be able to put up a respectable finish in Sunday's United Rentals 500(k) in Phoenix. Over the last 11 races at this track, Almirola has nine finishes of 13th or better (81.8%) with a worst result of 22nd. In practice on Friday, Almirola had the 6th-fastest 25-lap average, showing he has good long run speed for Sunday's race. He should still be able to content for a top 15 finish despite the bad qualifying effort.
