Anthony Volpe Drops To Sixth In Batting Order
5 months agoNew York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe is being dropped to sixth in the batting order on Fourth of July on Thursday against the visiting Cincinnati Reds and right-hander Frankie Montas. First baseman Ben Rice jumps up into the leadoff spot for the matinee affair. This will be the first time since April 9 that Volpe has hit anywhere other than leadoff for the Bronx Bombers. The 23-year-old was hot to start the season but has hit a rough patch of late and has hit .211 (28-for-133) with no home runs, six doubles, three triples, six RBI, three walks, 33 strikeouts and four stolen bases in 29 games since June 1. It has dropped his season slash line to .256/.310/.384 with a .694 OPS. Volpe has only six stolen bases, but he's also scored 58 runs and 15 stolen bases to keep him relevant in all fantasy leagues. If he can get going again, Volpe should get another shot to return to leadoff duties.
